WOMAN BLAMES HEALTH PROBLEMS ON WAL-MART PHARMACY FOUL-UP
Date: 29-May-2007
SOUTHPORT -- She says a pharmacy foul-up is causing her to go blind. Now a Southport woman is taking on a big business.

For three straight days Gracie page has affixed herself to a sign of protest.

She says it's time the little people stand up to big corporations.

Page said, "You can't knock the little fellow down and keep going."

Page's problems with Wal-Mart arose nearly three years ago. She said, "Wal-Mart pharmacist filled my prescription wrong. They gave me ten times the dosage of what I was supposed to have. The error wasn't caught for ten months."

She now suffers from a myriad of health problems, including complications with her eyes. She says the pills have brought on cataracts.

Page said, "I've got deteriorating bones from it. I'm losing my eyesight. I don't want to lose my sight. That is so scary."

Neither store personnel, nor representatives from Wal-Mart's media hotline were available for comment. Although this matter is now in corporate hands and the two

sides are trying to reach an agreement, Page says the compensation just isn't enough.

Page said, "They've offered me $3,500 in compensation. The eye

surgery is going to be about $14,000."

According to Page, Wal-Mart has said the matter is nothing personal, it's just business. She doesn't agree.

"Well this is personal, it's my health. It's my eyesight. If I lose my eyesight I'm not going to be able to do my job."

And Page says she's willing to stay out her as long as it takes.

"If I have too, if I go blind, I'll stay out here with a seeing eye dog."

Page says her faith has helped her through this ordeal and that the man upstairs will see to it things work out.
