A Louisiana man - incarcerated in the Jefferson Davis (La.) Parish jail in connection with multiple armed robberies and an attempted murder in Louisiana - has admitted robbing Orange Pharmacy last month.
Chanson Andrew Cooper, 27, of Leesville, La., gave a statement to the Orange Police Department, admitting he had also committed the March 29 aggravated robbery at Orange Pharmacy, Officer Sarah Jefferson-Simon said Monday.
The owner of the pharmacy, John Dennison, arrived about 20 minutes before the opening time of 8:30 a.m. March 29 and noticed a man sitting in his car in the parking lot. As Dennison tried to go into the pharmacy's back door the suspect abruptly approached him with a gun. Cooper allegedly ordered Dennison into the store and made him put various medications into a bag before fleeing.
"I am relieved he is off the streets," Dennison said Monday afternoon.
Cooper's crime spree came to an end as he was finally apprehended by officers with the Sulphur, La. Police Department.
"After committing the robbery here he was involved in another robbery," Jefferson-Simon said.
After allegedly robbing the pharmacy, Cooper is believed to have robbed a check-cashing business in Sulphur, La. He attempted to evade detention but was involved in a collision.
Cooper was reportedly in the same vehicle he was driving when he committed the robbery in Orange, Jefferson-Simon said.
Cooper is believed to have started his crime spree March 23 in Jennings, La., where he robbed a check-cashing business. Three days later on March 26, he robbed a Budget Inn in Jennings, La., and shot the owner in the chest. That same day he robbed check-cashing businesses in Crowley, La., and Gonzales, La. Cooper is also believed to have committed another robbery in Lake Charles, La., said Detective Chad Romero of the Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff's Office.
Jefferson-Simon will file charges of aggravated robbery with the Orange County District Attorney's Office. Cooper will have to face the charges in Louisiana before he will be transferred to Texas.
