I NEED VIAGRA AFTER OP
Date: 9-Dec-2007
Dear Dr Cath,

I had a heart operation and for a few years I have had problems with erections.

I've read that people with heart conditions and high blood pressure should not take Viagra. Is there anything I can take that will not cause me any problems?

Dr Cath replies,

Viagra belongs to a class of drugs called PDE5 inhibitors. They relax the smooth muscle of blood vessels in the groin, allowing blood to engorge the penis and produce the erection.

Many people who have heart problems or high blood pressure are taking tablets that already relax blood vessels.

Taking any of the PDE5 inhibitors such as Viagra, Levitra or Cialis can be very dangerous so don't be tempted to try without talking to your doctor first.

Try to pluck up the courage to talk to your GP. They will take your problem seriously and not judge you.

It could be that your tablets are OK to take with Viagra so your worries could be for nothing. Alternatively your doctor can talk you through the other options such as vacuum devices or injections.
